The Y Theatre – Theatre & Events Supervisor

We are looking to recruit an Events Supervisor to manage the on-the-night running of our events during evenings and weekends. They will duty manage the administrative, technological and financial aspects of our facilities during events and facilities hires, champion high-quality customer care and manage the casual Events Team staff. An integral member of the Theatre & Events team, they will be responsible for the public and the facilities in use by them.

 

Position: Theatre and Events Supervisor

Salary: £24,773 per annum (£15,483 pro-rata 25 hours per week)

Hours of Work: A minimum of 25 hours per week, working evenings and weekends as per the events calendar, usually Thursday-Monday

Location: Leicester

About the role:

The Y Theatre is a bustling live performance venue based in Leicester city Centre. Our eclectic programme includes music, comedy, theatre, dance, new work and family shows. The 300-seat theatre also comfortably hosts candle-lit cabaret style events and standing gigs. Built in 1900, The Y is the oldest surviving Victorian theatre in Leicester.

 

We support the development of new, emerging & established performance, within an open and welcoming theatre, creating a hub of activity for local artists. We also create opportunities for young people in gaining theatre training and skills through our Y Events Lab programme.

 

The Theatre and Events Supervisor will oversee the smooth running of theatre events, with responsibility for the efficient and safe operation of public areas and supervision of the bar and front of house team. They will also support the maintenance of the facilities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Implement and champion a customer orientated philosophy within The Y Theatre
  • Manage the casual Events Team
  • Responsibility for the efficient and safe operation of the East Street Complex
  • Maintain bar standards and stock
  • Manage all relevant administrative, technological and financial systems and procedures.

About you

The Events Supervisor will have experience of working in a customer facing role and supervising staff, with venue and bar experience an advantage. They will be a proactive team-player with excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for working in the arts and with young people.

The post holder will be expected to have an understanding or willingness to learn about the needs and complexities of some of the young people living at and using YMCA Leicestershire and the ability to appreciate and add to the bigger fundraising and business development picture of the organisation.

To succeed in the role of Theatre and Events Supervisor, your key skills will include:

  • Minimum NVQ Level 2 Customer Service qualification or relevant experience in a Customer Service role
  • Minimum NVQ Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy or equivalent
  • Supervisory ILM Level 3 or equivalent qualification/demonstrable evidence of experience
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work professionally and courteously, developing and maintaining good working relationships with young people, hirers and artists.
  • A passion for the arts, live entertainment and technical theatre
