Housing Officer – Move-on & Resettlement

We're looking for an experienced housing officer to join our team to provide housing management and support services to our residents within our Move on, Resettlement and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) provisions.

Position: Housing Officer - Move on & Resettlement

Salary: £25,522 per annum

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (working 1 weekend out of 4)

Location: Dispersed properties around Leicester city centre

About the role:

YMCA Leicestershire is the largest voluntary sector provider of accommodation to single homeless young people within Leicester between the ages of 16 – 25 years old. We are also the primary provider for the local authority contract offering accommodation and support across the city with our Move on houses along with designated properties to accommodate Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children aged between 16 & 18 years old.

This role has been created to increase the capacity within the team offering support for young people that move through our internal pathway from higher support to lower support move on houses, as well as for young people that are referred by the Local Authority placements team and categorised as UASC whilst their immigration application is processed, progressing eventually to independent living.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • To provide a comprehensive intensive housing management service to residents requiring low support located within YMCA Leicestershire’s move on provision at an average of 3-hours of support per person per week.
  • To provide a comprehensive intensive housing management & support service to residents within the Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children provision at an average of 6-hours of support per person per week.
  • To develop positive professional relationships with all residents in order to support them as their life develops within YMCA Leicestershire.
  • Having the ability to deal with challenging behaviour in a professional manner

About you:

Our Housing Officers will be highly motivated and have the commitment and desire to make a difference in the lives of young people. You will be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to help young people identify and meet their personal, social, health, learning and employment needs as identified in their Support and Resettlement plans.

To succeed in the role of Housing Officer, your key skills will include:

  • Experience in housing/social, coaching environment
  • Hold a minimum Level 3 qualification in Housing / Youth & Community Development / Social Work / Coaching or relevant Social Science or actively working/or be willing to work towards this
  • Direct experience of working with young adults who are from a disadvantaged background.
  • Direct experience of working with a range of multi-agency partners at delivery level. 
  • Being resilient, flexible and adaptable.
  • To actively hold yourself and others to account in being tolerant and understanding of behaviours driven by trauma responses and have the ability to enforce clear boundaries when required
  • Must hold a driver’s licence, have access to a vehicle and be willing to take out business insurance
