Trainee Counsellor
Part-time, unpaid trainee position
Nine Month Placement Commencing on 14 September 2022 until 5 July 2023 (Term Time - must commit to one day a week on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays, subject to the trainee’s requirement for placement hours )

The Fashion Retail Academy Counselling team is growing and as a result, we are able to offer a Trainee Counsellor the opportunity to gain placement hours and hone their skills within a highly experienced wellbeing team.  The Counsellors that make up our team use a wide range of theoretical models though most would describe their working as integrative, as they endeavour to meet the needs of our individuals.  All Counsellors adhere and follow the BACP Ethical Framework guidelines.  

The role will provide short to medium term counselling to individuals that encourages healthy mental and emotional development while promoting longer-term resilience. Early intervention and support are key to ensuring we support individuals and enable them to achieve to the best of their ability.

We would like to support a trainee who is studying for a Degree, Masters, or other relevant course that requires placement hours to support with the completion of their qualification. The trainee must also be familiar with and follow the ethical framework of the BACP guidelines when working in education. It is essential that they have an awareness of FE, a good understanding of equality and diversity issues, safeguarding, health and well-being issues and pastoral care issues and support measures. The Trainee should also have experience of working therapeutically with young people.

The successful candidate will be personable, highly compassionate, and genuinely interested in supporting young adult mental health in education. They must be a confident communicator and be able to build rapport quickly with students and develop positive, cooperative, and effective working relationships within a multidisciplinary team.

Please note, this role is a part-time, unpaid trainee position. Hours are flexible based on the availability and need of the Trainee for placement hours.

There will be a compulsory induction training the week of 22 August 2022 at the FRA that will be arranged with the Counselling Coordinator to provide a general introduction to the Service and the placement.
