Location/Division: London

Doctors of the World’s UK programme provides direct services and leads policy and advocacy work to help excluded people across the UK, such as migrants in vulnerable situations sex workers and people with no fixed address, access essential healthcare.

DOTW have re-opened our drop-in service in Stratford after a period of closure due to Covid-19. The clinic is open 3 days a week and we are aiming to gradually increase the service and bring it back to 5 days a week. Given the current Covid-19 context, we are particularly looking for clinicians who will be able to travel to the clinic easily (there is no parking, but good access to public transport. We also have bike racks outside the clinic)

Doctors of the World volunteers provide a highly empathetic and practical service to our service users, making a real difference to people’s lives. If you are a fully qualified GP with full GMC registration and licence to practice or a Nurse with 2 years of NHS experience, are passionate about improving access to healthcare, and enjoy working in a team on often complex and challenging cases, then you should consider applying!

You will be responsible for providing first line medical care to service users in a clinic setting. You will diagnose and treat as appropriate, offering prescriptions as required, summarise consultation notes into letters for service users, and advocate on their behalf. You will also promote healthy living and provide information on other appropriate services. As a Doctors of the World volunteer, you will gain experience working inside a humanitarian organisation making a real difference and will have the chance to develop further transferrable skills through the variety of engaging work you will be involved in, as well as regular training sessions. Daily debriefs are just part of the support our small staff team provides.

All volunteers who carry out a face-to-face role will be required to submit a COVID-19 individual risk assessment (see the Alama Covid Age test: https://alama.org.uk/covid-19-medical-risk-assessment/).

Those with lived experience of migration, the asylum system, homelessness, or exclusion from health services are encouraged to apply.
